Headaches affect millions of people in the U.S from children to adults. There are different types of headaches including migraines, tension headaches, cluster headaches, rebound headaches, vascular headaches, and mixed types. Headaches can be triggered by various causes including hormones, tyramine, sleep deficiency, medications, caffeine, second hand smoke, sinus problems, head or neck injury, or unknown causes. Proper evaluation of headaches includes a comprehensive history and physical; including a thorough neurological exam. A detailed history will be taken to determine how long you have been having headaches, etc. Testing may include imaging of the head. Treatment for headaches depends on the type and cause. Medication is often used. Selective blocks may help some headaches. Keeping a headache log is useful and avoiding triggers helps as well.
